Bio/Nano interface research
Phenomena at the bio/nano interface seems to be very interesting and promising for biomedical applications. A counterions bound coating on nanoparticles may show an excellent use of nanoparticles in therapy. Our recent reports show that on electrostatic binding of proteins with these nanoparticles associated counterions unfold the native conformations of bound proteins. A model, called Reverse Charge Parity Counterions (RCPC), has been developed to define the protein-nanoparticle e.s. interaction and counterions effect. The interactions have been theoretically formulated in CSB 2015, a representative artwork of this model has been published in the Cover Page of this issue (see Research page). A layman summary of this paper can be seen in Atlas of Science. The counterions bound charge-ligand coated iron oxide nanoparticles also show interesting magnetic properties.
